Together, we can help reduce homelessness

People who are experiencing homelessness are valuable. That is why, this year, we have taken a huge step toward reducing homelessness. Together with local churches and nonprofits, we are building a collaboration that has expanded our winter shelter to be open every night. This allows us to provide consistent volunteering roles for churches, and constant wrap-a-round services for people experiencing homelessness in Elgin this winter. In order to do this, there are three ways you can help:

The overnight winter shelter for people experiencing homelessness will be at First United Methodist Church located at 216 E Highland Avenue, Elgin, IL. The shelter will be open everyday from December 1st through March 31st, 7 p.m.—7 a.m.

There are 3 volunteer shifts:

  • 1st Shift: 6:30 pm - 11 pm (4 people total)

  • 2nd Shift: 11pm - 6:30 am (3 people total)

  • 3rd Shift: 6:30 am - 7:30 am (2 people total)

If you are interested in volunteering, fill out the General Volunteer Form by clicking the button below.

Each shift will have a Shift Lead and there will be an On-call person for each day, along with a weekly Team Leader. These individuals will receive extra training such as Crisis Intervention Training, how to administer Narcan, emergency procedures, etc.

If you have any questions, fill out the form below, and we’ll get back to you as soon as we can.
